“Let the different faiths exist, let them flourish. Let the glory of God be sung in all languages and in a variety of tunes. That should be the ideal. Respect the differences between faiths and recognise them as valid, so far as they do not extinguish the flame of unity.”

Sai Baba urges man to believe that all hearts are motivated by the One and only God; that all faiths glorify the One and only God; that all Names, in all languages, and in all Forms that man can conceive, denote the One and only God. Baba said all Names are Divine and so in worshipping God one should not make distinctions between one Name or Form and another.

Sai Baba said all religions are different paths leading to one and the same destination, and that all should experience this Truth and live up to it in their daily lives. In fact, religion is intended to develop the human personality and indicate the basic guidelines for right living. Love, sacrifice, service and righteousness are the four limbs of religion. Religion brings out the Divine and sublime feelings in man and makes him serve society. Sai Baba urged all to experience the Divine in every activity.

He said all religions exhort man to cleanse the heart of malice, greed, hate and anger, and that all religions hold out the gift of grace as the prize of success in this cleansing process. That ideas of superiority and inferiority arise only in the heart corrupted by egoism.

In this way, religion brings out the humanness in man and enables him to live in harmony with his fellow men. It provides the link between the individual and the Divine. It demonstrates the unity that underlies the diversity in the world. He advised all to cultivate the attitude of Oneness between people of all creeds, all countries and all continents.

Sai Baba wants that a Muslim should become a true Muslim, a Christian should become a true Christian, a Hindu should become a true Hindu, a Buddhist should become a true Buddhist, etc. Indeed, one should have full faith in one’s religion and lead an ideal life.

He said one should love God and one’s neighbour as oneself, for in these two commandments do rest all laws and prophets.
